Step 2 – language

A few words about my preparations. I have been wondering if I should bring a decent dictionary. Given the restrictions on my luggage weight, to do so would have turned out costly. So, I found an alternative. A Palm Tungsten equipped with plecodict. What a miracle! It’s is all about this character-recognition tool, which cuts down time for finding the meaning of a character without knowledge of its phonetics. And it cuts it down big. Just jot down the sign of your choice and the program offers you a set of characters approximating your creation. One must not be a master of calligraphy either, in fact, the dictionary also recognizes character designs that do not follow stroke order or even precise stroke composition. So most of the time, you get what you want with only a tiny bit of effort. Another side-effect of the procedure, by actually drawing the sign one also practises it. Amazing. No more looking up radicals and counting strokes. Its slim and easy to use, its definitely more fun and more effective than turning pages. Can’t wait to use it on the streets.

Not quite there yet. But already setting up a blog. Let’s see where this will take me. The theme is ‘cutline’, the header is taken from the ‘dust 3.17′ theme (author: miloIIIIVII). I am not entirely satisfied however, prefering three columns and a darker layout. But I like the text-formatting. Anyhow, the blog-name is inspired by the street where I’ll be staying at…
