东直门外 大街

Tourism

Today is smog-day. Vision is limited, and so is respiration. Smog as weather…just like fog, it’s there when wind isn’t.

Thought it would be a good day for pictures, so I went to Tiananmen. Marvelous, the place just looks the way it did 5 years ago. Unlike the rest of Beijing. On the picture, of course, the Forbidden City. Notice that the official is designated as ‘police’. Another preparatory measure for the Olympics perhaps, and certainly proof that English is globalizing.

After biking 30 minutes to the Square of Heavenly Peace I peacefully went on to the hutongs at the Drum-tower.

Hutong Film

I really like this area, because you can get lost just a little. It sharpens your sense of direction. Plus, it features all kinds of people: locals, tourists and migrant workers. On the picture you see, indeed, a film-scene being shot. The guy in the middle desperately tried to convey to people not to yell around and honk their horns. Wouldn’t want his job…
